Pham Luc Countryside Collection
Pham Luc (born 1943 in Hue, Vietnam) is one of the most prominent contemporary Vietnamese painters. A graduate of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, he spent 35 years as an army artist, drawing inspiration from wartime life and ordinary people. Known for his expressive and powerful style, Pham Luc often paints on burlap sacks, creating works that reflect Vietnamese culture and daily life.
He works with various materials such as oil, gouache, silk, lacquer, and woodcut, and his subjects often include soldiers, women, children, and rural scenes. In 2004, he founded the Pham Luc Painting Collectors’ Club, the first artist-centered collectors’ club in Vietnam. His works have been exhibited and collected internationally in countries like France, the U.S., Japan, and Korea.
Often called the “Picasso of Vietnam,” Pham Luc is admired not only for his prolific creativity but also for his charitable activities through art. He continues to live and paint in Hanoi, remaining a beloved figure in the Vietnamese art scene.
